Take 1, and Go

Tonight's game was, for the first time this season, a loss that I don't mind to take. New Jersey has always had our number when it comes to goals. They consistently manage to limit Montreal to a minimum amount, even without Brodeur.

All of Montreal's offense came from the first. They had 13 shots alone in the first period, one of them was a goal by D'Agostini. D'Agostini is really showing everyone that he's here to stay. He's a big guy with speed, and he can shoot the puck too. Sorry Latendresse, looks like the train has left, and someone has taken your seat.

Price had yet another solid game. It's unfortunate that Halak has to backup this guy. Price consistently plays so well that it's hard just too sit him. He's only let in 2 goals or less in 9 of his past 10. Hmm, Pretty good for a 21 year old.

We can all blame Kovalev for the OT goal. Whether it was deserved or not, he took a dumb tripping penalty. Although he did mess up at the end, he was creating some opportunities and recorded 3 shots on net. Hopefully this 15-game goalless streak will end sooner rather than later.

Looking back at the game, it's very simple. In the second half of it, the Habs were outskated, outshot and outplayed. The Devils shut down the Canadiens' offense with their boring zone play. The Habs went from 13 shots in the first, to only 4 in the third. Their goalie Scott Clemmenson wasn't to shabby either, stopping 25 shots.

To be honest, I thought we were going to lose this game. Clemmenson wasn't letting anything by him and Elias missed a couple of golden opportunities. However, we'll take the point and move on to the next game. You can't ask for more than 7 out of a possible 8 points to start the homestand.

Notes: Markov and Dandenault both left the game with injuries... D'Agostini scored his 3rd goal in his 3rd game... S.Kostitsyn, Latendresse and O'Byrne were scratches for the third night in a row... Montreal went 0 for 5 on the PP...

It says 10 votes now.
It's a weird system but I think it works.

Re "Take 1 and go" I question your attitude when you say that Devils have our number and therefore we probably would loose the game. We have won the last 3 games , and given the strength of our team, conbined with the absence of Marty B.,anything but a win would rank in my book as underachieving.
Aim high...... target 3 points and
the maybe "settle" for 2.

The devils have our number? the habs had won three straight against them, with brodeur.

The habs won there last three games and brodeur is hurt. Shouldn't we expect a win?

@AFS 58: 3 points? is that like a saying or something? How do you get three points from one game?

It was meant to be a general comment. Prior to last season, Brodeur's record against Montreal was something like 30 wins and maybe 15 losses(generalisation).
But you're both right, I guess you could say that last season, we had their number.
